Mini Biography:
Neal Hefti was educated in high school and through private music study. He was a trumpeter and arranger with dance orchestras including those of Harry James, Woody Herman, and Charlie Spivak between 1941 and 1951. He was a staff arranger and arranger for the "Arthur Godfrey Show" and the "Kate Smith Show" over ABC, and also formed his own orchestra, playing theatres, hotels, clubs and colleges, and made many recordings. Joining ASCAP in 1953, his oher popular song and instrumental compositions include "Coral Reef", "Cute", "Plymouth Rock", "Buttercup", "Two for the Blues", "Oh What a Night for Love", "Cherry Point", "The Kid from Red Bank", "Repetition", "Splanky", "Sunday Morning", "Hot Pink", "Little Pony", "Lake Placid", "Why Not?", "Blowin' Up a Storm", "I'm Shoutin' Again", "Eee Dee", "Jump for Johnny", "The Long Night", "The Good Earth", "Wildroot", "Late Date", "It's Always Nice to Be With You", "I Must Know", and "Girl Talk". His“Batman”television theme was released as a single and went as high as #35 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. A version by the Marketts did better, cracking the Top 20 at #17. The theme song has been covered throughout the years by the Who, the Kinks, and virtually every surf-band on Earth. His credits of scores for television and movies include "Sex and the Single Girl", "How to Murder Your Wife", "Synanon", "Boeing Boeing", "Harlow", "Lord Love a Duck", "Duel at Diablo", and "Barefoot in the Park". He received Grammy Award nominations and prizes for "Jazz Pops" (Li'l Darlin', Cute, Coral Reef) as artist, two awards for "Basie" (Li'l Darlin', Splanky, Teddy the Toad) as composer, three nominations (one award) for the Batman TV score, two nominations for the Harlow movie score (Girl Talk), and two nominations for The Odd Couple TV score.

音楽は「（TV）バットマン」(1967〜1968)や、「女房の殺し方教えます」(1965)「裸足で散歩」(1967)「おかしな二人」(1968)等、コメディやドラマを中心にスコアを手がけているアメリカの作曲家ニール・ヘフティで、これは彼が作曲した唯一の西部劇スコア。「Duel
at Diablo (Main Title)」は、マカロニ・ウエスタン風のストイックなタッチの主題によるメインタイトル。「Bullets and
Beans」は、明るいマーチ。「Keep in the Shadows」は、トラジックな主題。「The Earth Runs
Red」は、メインの主題を織り込んだサスペンス音楽。「Prologue」もサスペンス調。「Duel at Diablo
(Vocal: Ernie Sheldon)」は、アーニー・シェルドンの作詞・ヴォーカルによる主題歌（アルバム用に録音されたもので、映画では未使用）。「Rescue
from Ritual」は、リズミックなサスペンス・アクション音楽。「Ellen's Theme」は、メインの主題のメランコリックなアレンジメントによるエレンの主題。「Fight
at Diablo Pass」は、アパッチが騎兵隊を襲撃するシーンのダイナミックなアクション音楽。「Dust to Dust (End
Title)」は、メインの主題のリプライズによるエンドタイトル。
このサントラ・アルバムは過去に米United Artists RecordsよりLP（UAS
5139）としてリリースされていたが、このCDは、2008年に米Film Score
MonthlyレーベルがリリースしたCD12枚組／全20作品のボックス・セット「The MGM Soundtrack Treasury」中の1作品としてCD化されたもので、ニール・ヘフティ作曲・指揮の「女房の殺し方教えます（How
to Murder Your Wife）」(1965)のサントラとのカップリングとなっている。
