Ravi Shankar is a world-renowned musician, composer, performer, and scholar of classical Indian music. Born in India, he moved to Paris in 1930, and received most of his education there. From the age of 12, he performed as a musician and dancer on tour in Europe and America with his brother Uday Shankar, and in 1939 had his first concert as soloist at a music conference in Allahabad. By 1945 Shankar's reputation as the leading performer of traditional Hindustani music on the sitar had coalesced. He began to branch out as a composer, writing music for ballet and for important films such as Dharti Ke Lal and Neecha Nagar. In 1949, he became Music Director of All-India Radio at Delhi, and founded the Vadya Vrinda Chamber Orchestra. The years 1950-55 were a particularly intense period of compositional activity, most notably in the internationally-acclaimed film studios of Calcutta, where he scored The Ray Triology. For his outstanding contribution to Indian music and culture, he received his first of five Presidential Awards in 1962, India's highest honor in the arts.

ダニエル・キイスの小説「アルジャーノンに花束を」を映画化した1968年製作のアメリカ映画。製作・監督はラルフ・ネルソン。出演はクリフ・ロバートソン、クレア・ブルーム、リリア・スカラ、レオン・ジャニー、ルース・ホワイト、ディック・ヴァン・パッテン、バーニー・マーティン、ウィリアム・ドゥイヤー、ダン・モーガン、エドワード・マクナリー他。脚本はスターリング・シリファント、撮影はアーサー・J・オーニッツが担当。知的障害を患う青年チャーリー（ロバートソン）は、ある科学実験によって知能が飛躍的に向上した実験用のネズミ“アルジャーノン”と仲よしになる。彼は脳手術によって一般人を上回る知能を身につけるが、ある日、彼と同様の手術を施されたアルジャーノンの死を目撃してしまう・・。
この映画の音楽を作曲したラヴィ・シャンカールはヒンズー音楽の第一人者で、インド楽器のシタール（Sitar）奏者としても有名な人物。この作品でも、バド・シャンク（フルート）、トム・スコット（フルート）、アーティ・ケイン（ピアノ）、レイ・ブラウン（ベース）、ビル・プラマー（ベース）といったパーフォーマーと共にシタールを演奏している。スコア全体としては、メインテーマである「Charly Theme」のような民族色の強い曲と、「Main Title」「Scenic Tour」のようにより西洋的で洗練されたタッチの曲（ジャズベース）が混在している。民族楽器を使っているが、さほど奇抜な印象はなく、幻想的で美しい。舞踏音楽風の「Termoil」、メリーゴーランド風の「Love Montage」等も良い。ヒーリングミュージック風でありながらも、ドラマ性と深みを感じさせる。
ラヴィ・シャンカールは、この「まごころを君に」の他に「Neecha Nagar」(1946)「Dharti Ke Lal」(1946)「Pather
Panchali」(1955)「Kabuliwala」(1956)「Aparajito」(1956)「En Djungelsaga」(1957)「Parash
Pathar」(1958)「The Sword and the Flute」(1959)「Apur Sansar」(1959)等の20作ほどの映画音楽を担当しており、リチャード・アッテンボロー監督の「ガンジー」(1982)ではジョージ・フェントンと共同でリッチなスコアを作曲している。ビートルズのジョージ・ハリスンにヒンズー音楽を教授したことでも知られる。
