Mini Biography:
Patrick John Michael O'Hara Scott's father was a musician in the Bristol Police Band, and John was given music lessons, first on the violin and later on the clarinet. When he was 14, he enrolled in the British Army as a Boy Musician in order to carry on his musical studies. He continued his study of the clarinet and also studied harp. He went on to study the saxophone and became proficient enough that when he eventually left the military, he was able to find steady work touring with some of the top British bands of the era. He was hired by EMI and began to arrange and conduct with some of EMIs top artists. He worked with The Beatles and their producer George Martin, and went on to record with noted artists and groups, including Tom Jones, Cilla Black, and The Hollies. He also played with The Julian Bream Consort, Yehudi Menuhin, Ravi Shankar, Nelson Riddle, John Dankworth and Cleo Lane. In the 60s he was the leader of a popular jazz quintet and the noted Johnny Scott Trio. He played for Henry Mancini - who was a teacher and mentor in John's development as a film composer - and was principal sax on the "Goldfinger" soundtrack. His first score was for the film "A Study in Terror". He is the recipient of three Emmy Awards and numerous industry recognitions of his work. He has also composed many concert works including two symphonies, a ballet, an opera and three string quartets. He has also conducted other film composers' work for release on CD, as well as having conducted most of the London orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. Other European orchestras include the Munich Symphony Orchestra and the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra. In May 2006, he conducted the inaugural concert of the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra at the magnificent Royce Hall on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles. He has also founded his own record company JOS Records, and the label has released more than 25 CDs of his film score since 1989.

1977年製作のイギリス映画。監督は「恐竜の島」(1974)「地底王国」(1976)「アトランティス／7つの海底都市」(1978)「（TV）ゲームの達人」(1984)「（TV）帰ってきたシャーロック・ホームズ」(1987)「（TV）ダイアナ妃の真実」(1993)「（TV）フランケンシュタイン」(2004)等のケヴィン・コナー。出演はパトリック・ウェイン、ダグ・マクルーア、サラ・ダグラス、ダナ・ギレスピー、ソーリー・ウォルターズ、シェーン・リマー、トニー・ブリットン、ジョン・ホーラム、デイヴ・プラウズ、ミルトン・リード、キラン・シャー、リチャード・パーメンティアー、ジミー・レイ、トニー・マクヘイル他。「ターザン」等で知られるエドガー・ライス・バローズ（1875〜1950）の原作を基にパトリック・ティリーが脚本を執筆。撮影はアラン・ヒューム。「恐竜の島（THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT）」(1974／監督：ケヴィン・コナー、出演：ダグ・マクルーア、ジョン・マッケナリー他)の続編。ベン・マクブライド少佐（ウェイン）は、前作で行方不明になった友人のボゥエン・テイラー（マクルーア）を救出するため、捜索隊を編成して伝説の島へやって来るが、彼らの前にまたしても様々な恐竜たちが現れる……。

音楽はイギリスのベテラン、ジョン・スコット。「Main Title」は、“センス・オブ・ワンダー”を感じさせる、静かにサスペンスフルなメインタイトル。この主題は「Crash Plane」「Dark Shadows」「Cave of the Serpents」「Amphibian Flies Again」「Return Across The Ice Wall」等でも登場する。「Crossing The Ice Wall」「The Island of Mysteries」「Cave Girl Tells Her Story」「Ride to the Skulls」「Escape from Death」「Lake of Molten Lava」「Heart of the Volcano」等、全体を通して抑制されたサスペンス音楽が連続。「Stegosaurus Story」は、ジェントルなマーチ風の曲。「Ajor Speaks of Tyler」「Dinosaur Fight」「Captured by the Banlu」「Volcano God Speaks」等は、ビジーなアクション音楽。「Sacrificial Offering」は勇壮なマーチ。「Count of the Niegramata」は、メインの主題から後半はスコットらしいダイナミックなマーチに展開。「Run For Life」は、ややコミカルなアクション音楽。「End Credits」は、メインの主題のヒロイックなアレンジメントによるエンド・クレジット。カラフルな冒険活劇スコアだが、オーケストラの編成が小さく、演奏にあまり迫力がないのが難点。1977年のスコアだが、2006年にスコット自身が運営するJOSレーベルより初めてリリースされたサントラ盤。
